There are many children who wait in China for someone to SEE them.  They have hearing loss or were born with microtia and atresia... and need a family.  I will update this blog in the following weeks.  Hopefully ALL the children featured here have found families.

LOGAN October 2008 birthday

Logan

Boy, born Oct 2008

PRC
Logan has leukoderma on both of his hands and is
 deaf.
Logan is a shy boy 4 year old boy. He has
leukoderma on both of his hands and is deaf.
He received hearing and speech
rehabilitation
training for approximately 3 months. Through rehabilitation, he is improving in several
areas. His tongue is getting stronger and he can pay
attention to the teacher’s exaggerated mouth. He can pronounce a few sounds, though he mainly uses
actions to communicate. Logan can follow directions
and has great coordination. He is active, restless,
outgoing, and likes getting along with others. He likes playing toy cars and may occasionally lose his
temper. He is a deep sleeper and has a good
appetite, however, he does not like vegetables.

Logan sounds like a great boy. With Logan knowing
some signs/gestures, I bet he would pick up ASL
easily.
He has a Reece's Rainbow link.

Meet Shirly April 2012 birthday

Cuteness Alert!!!

Shirly, female, born in April of 2012, postoperative CHD, congenital microphthalmus of left eye, cataract, fissura auris congenita (ear deformity)
Edited 10/27 to add:
This pretty little girl can crawl fast, and stand with support. She has good use of her hands and giggles when playing hide and seek! She loves toys and eats a regular diet well. She has failed her hearing test. The nannies noticed she wasn't responding to noise.  They requested the director to have her hearing checked and she failed her hearing test. I'm not sure if anything further was done or if she would benefit from hearing aids. In my opinion, she needs
new testing to see if hearing aids would help her

have some sounds if her hearing is compromised.  Please contact Xiaoqing@baas.org to see her full file!  In her video she is walking, playing with toys,  Shirly can walk BACKWARDS!  She seems to be a happy child.  Her right ear tends to bend a wee bit forward.

Shirly is SO young, she needs her forever family NOW!!  If she does have hearing loss, NOW is the time for hearing aids and a good base of America Sign Language so she can communicate.  Check her new video and see if you see your daughter... Cuteness x 100! copy and paste the link below into your browser.

In January 2016, Trevor will no longer be eligible to be adopted as he will turn 14. He is independent, open and active. Trevor is very smart, he can write calligraphy nicely, his self learning ability is excellent and he is always helpful to others. He has binaural severe nerve deafness but is fluent in sign language. Trevor is part of the Journey of Hope Partnership Program and has a $2000 grant. Videos and updated photos are being snail mailed from China so as soon as those are received, they will be shared. FRAN: age 6.5 years old

6.5 year old Fran is newly newly listed with Madison Adoption Associates. Fran is deaf . She has congenital heart defects (CHD), including mild Pulmonary Stenosis and mild Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO). From reading Fran's file, it is clear that this girl will do very well in a forever family! Speaking of files, this is one of the best ones I've seen- it is full of information. Fran likes to play with other children. She also likes to play with dolls, games, and do puzzles. Her favorite foods are apples and eggs and she likes to drink milk. She also loves snacks!
At the age of 6, Fran began going to a special school. At first, she didn't know the rules and was a little naughty. Then she learned the rules.  Now she knows  to look at the person's lips who is speaking and  language of the teachers. When she would go back to the institute from school, she would become more active and would want to play games with the other children. One month after starting school. she began to work hard in school. She could be found helping her teachers to move chairs and other objects. She quickly became a favorite. She quickly learned to follow the teachers and learned some sign language, but still did not know how to write. One term later, after the winter holiday ended and the school re-started, she began to have deep feelings for the school. The first day back at school, she ran around to help her teacher clean the tables, chairs, and floors. She knew the school rules now and was better, though she still had trouble sitting quietly and would occasionally make a bad choice. She is learning more gestures, such as one for her name, the numbers 1-10, and a sign for toilet. She has learned to write many numbers as well as, some words. She is very careful, but still makes some mistakes. She is an active student in school.  She enjoys games and crafts. She won two awards at school- one for “good child" prize, and one for “small pacesetter who helps others" prize.
The awards made her very happy and proud. Her overall performance is excellent. Even when she loses a game, she will smile. She needs some help when it comes to fine motor skills, but she is fond of learning and can imitate quite well. She seems to be very interested in gymnastics and can do many tricks. She is flexible and has talent in dancing.
On Children’s Day in 2013, she moved to a new house. She likes the new house very much and she is happy to point to the pictures on the wall. She has good life habits- she knows to wash hands before a meal and after using the bathroom. She also likes putting on clothes and socks with bright colors. She will put her index finger against her lips and open her mouth. Her roommate made her call mama. Her caretaker will get her hand to touch the caretaker’s vocal cords to make her feel the vibrations when her caretaker is speaking. After practicing a lot, she began to speak a consistent mama mama.
Fran studies in the special school from Monday to Friday and on Saturday and Sunday, she has a rest and activities in the welfare institute. After class each day, she goes back to the welfare institute. She does not needs adults to help her do things she can do on her own, such as: putting down her bag, washing hands, etc. She then helps put the chairs in order to prepare to eat. After the meal, she will help to put the chairs, bowls, and chopsticks in order and cleans the table. She will then go to the activity room to watch TV and play games with other children. Before going to sleep at night, she can get her bed ready, put her pillows in order, and she can also help other children get their beds ready.
Then she will put her hands together to place her hands on the left side of her face to show that she is going to sleep. She will give a sign for good night.
Fran is enthusiastic, outgoing, and fond of learning. All the caretakers in the orphanage love her very much! It is clear that with the love of a forever family and some guidance, this child will make huge gains and will soar!
For more information on Fran, please fill out a free PAP Waiting Child Review form, which can be found here:https://madison.mysamdb.com/SAM/Fm/Fm_Ap_Form_Edt.aspx

GREG AGE 11 MONTHS

Meet GREG DOB: November 27, 2013

Came to Harmony House: March 28, 2014 Special Needs: Microtia

Greg is an adorable little cutie. Just four months old when he came to Harmony House, he
has already captured hearts and is known as The Smiler.
He loves it when you hold him and talk to him, which would seem to mean that he can hear.
His special need, however, is microtia, and the visible parts of both his ears are
deformed.  At such a young age, it is hard to determine hearing ability.
Shriner's in Cincinnati may be abl;e to help with his reconstructive surgeries for his outer ears.
Greg is named for Greg Kim from Virginia, a good friend, partner and parent of a

child adopted from Harmony House.

ALLEN

Meet ALLEN
Date of Birth: January 20, 2010

Came to Harmony House: May 27, 2014

Special Needs: Deafness

At about 4 ½ years old, Allen came to Harmony House in May, 2014, from Baotou City Welfare Institute in Inner Mongolia. His medical check revealed a healthy little boy who cannot hear. Lily says he is sweet, really smart and understands a great deal in spite of his deafness.

After a separate evaluation, we learned that Allen would be a good candidate for two hearing aids, and we are working to raise funds for that need. Lily is also arranging for him to be taught by the sweet teacher who was so successful in helping another of our Deaf orphans, Brian, over the last couple of years.

Allen is named for our dear friend and partner Allen Kuo from the Chicago area, and he is looking for his Forever Family. You can get more information at http://harmonyoutreach.org/the-children/sponsor-allen/
