FRAN: age 6.5 years old

6.5 year old Fran is newly newly listed with Madison Adoption Associates. Fran is deaf . She has congenital heart defects (CHD), including mild Pulmonary Stenosis and mild Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO). From reading Fran's file, it is clear that this girl will do very well in a forever family! Speaking of files, this is one of the best ones I've seen- it is full of information. Fran likes to play with other children. She also likes to play with dolls, games, and do puzzles. Her favorite foods are apples and eggs and she likes to drink milk. She also loves snacks!
At the age of 6, Fran began going to a special school. At first, she didn't know the rules and was a little naughty. Then she learned the rules.  Now she knows  to look at the person's lips who is speaking and  language of the teachers. When she would go back to the institute from school, she would become more active and would want to play games with the other children. One month after starting school. she began to work hard in school. She could be found helping her teachers to move chairs and other objects. She quickly became a favorite. She quickly learned to follow the teachers and learned some sign language, but still did not know how to write. One term later, after the winter holiday ended and the school re-started, she began to have deep feelings for the school. The first day back at school, she ran around to help her teacher clean the tables, chairs, and floors. She knew the school rules now and was better, though she still had trouble sitting quietly and would occasionally make a bad choice. She is learning more gestures, such as one for her name, the numbers 1-10, and a sign for toilet. She has learned to write many numbers as well as, some words. She is very careful, but still makes some mistakes. She is an active student in school.  She enjoys games and crafts. She won two awards at school- one for “good child" prize, and one for “small pacesetter who helps others" prize.
The awards made her very happy and proud. Her overall performance is excellent. Even when she loses a game, she will smile. She needs some help when it comes to fine motor skills, but she is fond of learning and can imitate quite well. She seems to be very interested in gymnastics and can do many tricks. She is flexible and has talent in dancing.
On Children’s Day in 2013, she moved to a new house. She likes the new house very much and she is happy to point to the pictures on the wall. She has good life habits- she knows to wash hands before a meal and after using the bathroom. She also likes putting on clothes and socks with bright colors. She will put her index finger against her lips and open her mouth. Her roommate made her call mama. Her caretaker will get her hand to touch the caretaker’s vocal cords to make her feel the vibrations when her caretaker is speaking. After practicing a lot, she began to speak a consistent mama mama.
Fran studies in the special school from Monday to Friday and on Saturday and Sunday, she has a rest and activities in the welfare institute. After class each day, she goes back to the welfare institute. She does not needs adults to help her do things she can do on her own, such as: putting down her bag, washing hands, etc. She then helps put the chairs in order to prepare to eat. After the meal, she will help to put the chairs, bowls, and chopsticks in order and cleans the table. She will then go to the activity room to watch TV and play games with other children. Before going to sleep at night, she can get her bed ready, put her pillows in order, and she can also help other children get their beds ready.
Then she will put her hands together to place her hands on the left side of her face to show that she is going to sleep. She will give a sign for good night.
Fran is enthusiastic, outgoing, and fond of learning. All the caretakers in the orphanage love her very much! It is clear that with the love of a forever family and some guidance, this child will make huge gains and will soar!
